Nearly three-quarters of a million children have been orphaned by AIDS in South Africa alone. The documentary, Orphans of Nkandla, highlighted this tragedy

Mbali and Sne are two children whose story is being repeated hundreds of thousands of times, the length and breadth of Africa.

After the broadcast of Orphans of Nkandla, we received many phone calls from the public who were so distressed by what they saw, that they wanted to do something to help the children in the film. Due to the tremendous outpouring of goodwill and generosity from viewers wanting to donate money, the Orphans of Nkandla Trust was born.

The Trust has been a great success. Not only has it already made a significance to the lives of those in the film, such as Mbali & Sne, Noxolo & Ntombi and Lindiwe & Nobuhle; but has helped Sister Hedwig in her selfless work to benefit all those families in the Nkandla region affected by the AIDS pandemic.

But there is, of course, still much more to do. Thousands of Children in Nkandla are affected by AIDS, and desperately need help.

If you wish to donate to the children featured in "Orphans of Nkandla" and the many they represent in the area, Sister Hedwig and her colleagues at the Nardini Sisters Convent have a bank account specifically for the purpose of channelling donations from well-wishers such as yourself directly to aid their work.

However True Vision has received emails from many people pointing out that banks wish to charge in excess of £20 to transfer funds to the Nardini Sisters' account in South Africa. To minimise these charges, we have established a trust account - the Orphans of Nkandla Trust - to pool funds. We will then forward funds to Sister Hedwig and the Nardini Sisters in monthly lump sums, very much reducing the proportion taken by the banks.
