Films that make a difference

Kate is an army brat (her father was a four-star General, so she far outranks Fergie).

Having grown up all over the world she doesn't speak any language whatsoever except English and is hence ideally suited to be one of the U.K.'s leading international documentary producers.

Being almost 6 foot, with blue eyes and long blonde hair, Kate made a small fortune as a model before going to Kent University to get a First Class Honours degree in Radio, Film and Television with Educational Broadcasting.

(Those with access to the Flake commercials archive may be rewarded if they look carefully.)

Kate has always been extremely lucky, a characteristic typified by her first big film job staying for six months in a luxury hotel while touring the most exotic and remote parts of Indonesia in order to write a script for a tourism promotion!

In 1986 Kate moved to Hong Kong where she formed a film company and spent the next nine years filming in Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, China, Macau, Australia, Malaysia, and Micronesia at the expense of various gullible clients.

The subject matter was vast and varied: the people, the businesses, the politics, the religions, the cultures, the stock exchange, flotations, wildlife, art and education, violence, crimes, corruption and death.

Fleeing the Chinese takeover in 1997, Kate came back to the UK and joined True Vision to co-produce and direct The Dying Rooms.

Her passion for the dark and depressing has kept her busier than her children would ideally prefer ever since.

She is never further than three feet from her mobile phone. When mobiles can be surgically implanted into the skull she will be queuing up at the Lister for the op.

Her least favourite quote describing her was in the Daily Mail: "KATE BLEWETT is blonde and blue-eyed, with perfect skin, terrifically long legs and a well-vowelled, public school voice. Frankly, she looks and sounds like one of the Princess Di set, the sort who works out in the Harbour Club before heading for Harvey Nichols, maybe squeezing in lunch at San Lorenzo on the way."

The great irony of course is that she is a life member of the Harbour Club, but never has time to go there.
